Before explaining what it consists of, it is important to highlight that it is a syndrome that affects the 30% of women and that in no case is it considered a pathology or disease.
Each month, one of the two ovaries randomly begins to produce a small sac called a follicle that contains the egg. When the follicle is mature, it breaks and expels the egg, leading to ovulation.
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome have the physiological characteristic that the walls of their ovaries are thicker than usual, causing the process of follicle rupture and egg expulsion to be more difficult and slower. For this reason, women with this syndrome have longer menstrual cycles and heavier periods.
On the other hand, the ovaries are glands that produce hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and the male hormone known as testosterone. The latter is produced in the ovarian cortex.
This means that women with polycystic ovaries may present symptoms such as acne, hair loss, alopecia and insulin resistance, which leads to a tendency to be overweight.
It should be noted that this is a syndrome that improves significantly with age and thus its symptoms are attenuated.
From the center of GinexPerez Before Gynecology Doctors Perez we treated patients with antiandrogen medication that makes the symptoms disappear completely while they take it, hoping that over time they will disappear.

In extreme cases of delayed menstruation or amenorrhea, treatment consists of a laparoscopic procedure in which a series of incisions are made in the ovary to facilitate ovulation.
