Breast cancer is an abnormal mutation in the growth of breast cells.
Although it is often believed to be genetic in origin, this only occurs in 5-10% cases. The other 95-90% comes from the natural aging of the tissues themselves.
Leading a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, exercising regularly, not abusing alcohol or avoiding being overweight are some preventive habits that can reduce the risk factors for breast cancer, although not eliminate them.

There are many types of breast cancer depending on their origin, type of tissue and where they are located. Below we list the most common breast cancers:

  • Ductal carcinoma in situ (also known as intraductal carcinoma)
It is a localized noninvasive or preinvasive breast cancer.
  • Lobular carcinoma in situ
Breast cancer in the milk-producing ducts and localized
  • Invasive cancer
These are those that are spread both in the tissue, in the ducts or in the mammary glands.

In Spain, with 26,000 diagnoses per year, breast cancer is the most common cancer, but due to medical advances it is also the one with the highest survival rates. According to the American Cancer Society, the relative survival rate in an early stage is practically 100%, while it drops to 72% in an advanced phase. From these figures it can be easily deduced that success in the treatment of breast cancer lies essentially in prevention. A prevention that at Gynecology Doctoras Pérez we insistently transmit to all our patients.

In the following post we will talk about how to carry out this prevention and learn to take care of ourselves to control the risk factors for breast cancer.
